Maestro Allan Pollack A resident of Berkeley, California for the past 30 years, Allan Pollack brings extensive experience and knowledge of the classical music world to the Camellia Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Pollack earned a PhD in composition from UC Berkeley in 1983 where he taught in the Department of Music for many years. He has written several large compositions for orchestra, all of which have been performed. His most recent piece is entitled 3 Generations, for clarinet, synthesizer, and piano, completed in 1999.
Since 1987 he has been Music Director of the Mendocino Music Festival, one of California’s most respected summer festivals, and since 1989 Artistic Director of the Symphony of the Redwoods, an orchestra based in Fort Bragg, California. He has also held conducting positions with the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, San Francisco State University, and the Capp Street Community Music Center. Pollack is also an accomplished jazz saxophone and clarinet player. His Albion Song for tenor saxophone and orchestra was received with great enthusiasm in Sacramento when he recently performed it with the Camellia Symphony Orchestra.
Dr. Pollack is looking forward to continuing the mission of the Camellia Symphony Orchestra in adventuresome programming for Sacramento and the surrounding areas.
